What do I get form joining VIRON?
- is the basis voluntary? What are the benefits if there is voluntary adhesion? Just visibility?
The basis is voluntary but implies active involvement. It is certainly not an academic group of scientists agreeing to do nothing but supporting some initiative. It’s not just visibility. You will benefit from sharing lots of information on research tools and products, as well as clinical and pharmacological contexts of your scientific interests, which will be contained in the unique integrated resource of VIRON Thesaurus. This resource will be constructed in an agile and information-rich, not cluttered by uselkess images or else that distract the attention of persons who wish to expand their knowledge of cancer in a really effective way. It will become a 'badge of honour' to be active part of the VIRON network. And you will ultimately obtain TIME - a little investment in your time and information/data at the beginning will repay you with lots of time saved in the future (e.g. finding the right clinical colleague or the company which is actively studying in clinical trials a drug you are writing a grant on).
- to whom information and links should be submitted?
for now , to VIRON coordinator (Mauro Degli Esposti) or directly within the membership form to join VIRON (in the ‘NOTE’ field). Subsequently, we will predispose specific webpages to host, in a way accessible to VIRON members, information they wish to submit, modify or update.
- who is managing VIRON website?
at the moment, the resources and webmaster of Via-academy, with the input of VIRON cooridnator and promoters. As soon adequate sponsorship and funding will be available, VIRON will recruit a small dedicated team of IT persons dedicated to implement the VIRON online resources and their presentation.
- what about possible conflict of interest? and sponsorship?
There is no conflict of interest in sight – the goal is to improve the outcome and management of cancer therapies in Italy, and any form of sponsorship is welcome to achieve this goal: by pharmaceutical companies, charities, public or private agencies or individual benefactors. VIRON is born as an informative platform to attract focused funding for any form of research into cancer, especially if it can be integrated with effective clinical trials. The sky is the limit!
